Reduced Manual Handling Demonstrates H&S, As Well As Commercial Benefits

New Scissor Lift Panel Attachment supports Integra Contracts Ltd to reduce manual handling at high-profile London site…

At the recent fit-out development of 30 Duke Street, St James’s in London, Integra were tasked by principle contractor Mace to complete all of the drywall installation on-site.

The site itself spans 68,000 square feet of re-purposed office space, boasting many innovative and sustainable features. With such a large area to cover, suspended ceiling and drywall specialist Integra required the right hire equipment to safeguard workers' health, whilst optimising efficiency when lifting boards to height.

With Musculoskeletal Disorders accounting for 53% of work-related absences in the Construction sector in 2025*, contractors across multiple disciplines are seeing that heavy lifting, repetitive tasks, and awkward postures are resulting in injuries, and ultimately a loss of productivity.

Specialising in Low Level Access solutions since 2013, MEP Hire was able to offer Integra a purpose-built solution.

With one of the largest and best-maintained Access fleets in the UK, MEP Hire has recently used their expertise to engineer a range of Safety Accessories that support the safe and secure lifting of materials when using their Access machines.

One of these safety accessories is the Panel Attachment for the Genie GS-1432m Micro Scissor Lift.

The attachment comes ready fitted to the side of the scissor lift and uses sliding brackets to safely attach boards to the machine, ready for lifting to the desired working height.

In collaboration with Safe MEWP, MEP Hire championed the design and manufacture of the attachment, with the key aim of reducing manual handling and saving time on repetitive tasks.

Ryan Corse, Senior Project Manager at Integra Contracts Ltd said, “the Panel Attachment solution from MEP Hire was exactly what we needed. We saw significant benefits in terms of the Health & Safety of our colleagues on-site, and this meant we were able to keep productivity high throughout the project.”

With the ability to lift loads up to 60kg, the Panel Attachment is invaluable to those installing sheet materials on-site, enabling workers to attach and lift boards to their required height, before safely detaching them from the machine for positioning onto the work area.

Pete McNeil, Head of Product at MEP Hire, added, “our ethos at MEP Hire has always been about improving safety when working at height. That doesn’t just cover falls from height; it’s about the overall safety of an operator when performing tasks at height. By reducing the need for manual handling through innovations such as the Panel Attachment, we are supporting our customer partners to keep their people safe, reduce their operating costs and improve their efficiency.”
