Case Study: MEP at 30 - Stuart Smith

Colleague Story

Stuart Smith, Account Manager

Account Manager Stuart Smith will have served 11 years with MEP Hire from August 2025. During that time, he has had a wide range of roles within the company, growing and developing his skill sets along the way!

Stuart began as a Driver/Fitter based in Aberdeen. He was then promoted to Branch Manager of Aberdeen in April 2016. He later moved down to London in September 2017 to work as a Branch Manager at our Rainham depot and subsequently made the move into an Account Management role back up in Scotland in September 2020 to be closer to family.

With a desire to move into a more customer-facing role, Stuart’s move to Branch Manager in London saw him working on some really large-scale projects. With a firm knowledge of the press-fit market, his move to the capital saw his understanding and appreciation of MEP Hire’s Low Level Access offering grow.

In his role as Branch Manager, he began working closely with the MEP Hire Sales Team and quickly found that he enjoyed interacting with customers to solve their on-site equipment requirements.

When an Account Management position opened up in Glasgow, Stuart jumped at the challenge.

Stuart loves the family feel of the organisation. He told us that knowledge sharing and up-skilling is a massive part of the culture and ethos.

He also appreciates that he is afforded ownership to really shape his role in the company and that he can really see his contribution to the company’s growth.

Stuart’s manager, Scott Clarke, who is the Regional Sales Manager up in Scotland said, “It’s been fantastic to watch Stuart’s skills grow over his years with the company – and great to have him back up in Scotland helping us to support our customers' specialist on-site needs.” A supportive and flexible employer, he has even introduced family members to the company and says that every day is a learning day!

“I really enjoy that customer engagement piece. I love building up relationships with our customers and working with them to find innovative ways to achieve their on-site tasks in a safe and productive way. I travel a fair bit across Scotland for my job right now, and it’s great to see the diverse range of customers and sites we have up in the region. There are some big projects coming up in Glasgow in the next few years, and it’ll be great to be a part of that conversation.” Stuart Smith

Regional Sales Manager Scott Clarke, added, “It’s a pleasure working with Stuart - he makes the job of being his boss really easy! Always there to offer a helping hand if something crops up, Stuart’s product knowledge and dedication are a real asset to the company."
