WAKE UP TO HAND ARM VIBRATION
Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) is vibration that is transmitted from some work processes into the hands and arms.
If regularly exposed to high vibration various injuries to the hands and arm can develop, together these are called Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS). The commonly known Vibration White Finger (VWF) is a disorder that brings about problems causing impaired blood circulation.
What are the Symptoms?
Tingling in the fingers / Numbness / More painful attacks can develop that may lead to the inability to grip / Less sensitive to temperature and touch / What are the causes?

WORKING AT HEIGHTS?
FACT: Falls from height are causing deaths and injuries; 45 killed in 2007 and over 3500 injured.
In 2008 a Company Director was charged with manslaughter for a death, 20 organisations have been reported in the press following falls from height leading to fatalities and injuries in just one month.
Don’t let this happen to you! What, No Steps?
On average 13 people a year die at work falling from ladders and nearly 1200 suffer major injuries.
More than a quarter of falls happen from lafdders. Its no wonder that rumour has it that steps are no longer to be used.
SO WHAT ARE THESE 5 STEPS TO RISK ASSESSMENT?
Identify the hazards?
Decide who might be harmed and how?
Work out what the likelihood and consequences would be, and decide on the right controls and precautions.
Write them down, and implement them effectively.
Review them regularly to make sure they remain effective?
DO YOU HAVE A NOISE PROBLEM AT WORK?
As a simple guide you will probably need to do something about the noise if any of the following apply:
Is the noise intrusive – like a busy street, a vacuum cleaner or a crowded restaurant – for most of the working day?
Do your employees have to raise their voices to carry out a normal conversation when about 2m apart for at least part of the day?
Do your employees use noisy powered tools or machinery for more than half on hour each day?
Do you work in a noisy industry, e.g. construction, demolition or road repair?
Are there noises due to impacts such as hammering, drop forging, pneumatic impact tools etc, explosive sources such as cartridge – operated tools or detonators? What are the causes?
All the products within this Website have a Noise Level indication db(A). Please see link below for our up to date Noise & Hand Arm Vibration download.
Do we know what we are breathing in? Sometimes there are fumes, vapours, or dusts in the air. You may or may not see them. You may taste them, smell them, feel them on your skin, or get them in your eyes.
If this happens you would get out, leave the room or area, put your hands over your mouth, or maybe a handkerchief to try and protect yourself?
And yet when we are building, decorating, carrying out demolition works, pointing a wall or cutting a slab, sawing MDF, and hardwoods, in many cases we don’t bother?
People cutting, sawing, drilling, grinding and working with many different materials do so with no PPE! All too often without risk assessment or planning, and in many cases without sufficient thought as to what the potential health effects caused by inhaling the dust produced, it’s got to stop!
